The Foolproof Guide To SHEIN Return Policy: How To Get Your Money Back Every Time

We’ve all been there before: you buy something online, it arrives, and it’s not what you wanted. Maybe the color is off, the fit is weird, or it doesn’t look as good in person as it did online. Whatever the case may be, you realize you need to return it. The process of returning an item can be a headache, especially if you’re not familiar with a company’s return policy.

SHEIN is a massive online shopping platform loved by all. It has a ton of trendy clothing options for adults, teens, and children at super affordable prices. But their return policy is super duper confusing. In this article, we will answer all your questions about the SHEIN return policy. Finally, you’ll be able to shop with confidence and know exactly what to do if you need to return an item- and get your money back in the process!

What is SHEIN’s return policy?

SHEIN’s return policy is designed to protect its customers. If you have any problems with your order, such as a bad fit or the wrong item being sent, you have about 45 days from the date of purchase to return it to SHEIN and get a full refund. Let’s find out more about SHEIN’s return policy in detail but first, let’s see how to return your order using the app.

How do I place a return order on SHEIN?

Learning how to return SHEIN clothes or other items is pretty simple! All you need to do is:

via SHEIN
  1. Open the SHEIN app and go to the “My Orders” section
  2. Select the order you want to return
  3. If you want to return just one item in an order of multiple, you can do that
  4. Once you open the order page, you’ll see all the items in that order listed together
  5. There will be a “return” button beside each item
  6. Tap on that button for every item you want to add to your return cart
  7. Once done, select “Request Return” and you’re done!

After this, all you need to do is wait for your return request to be approved. Once that’s done, you can wait for it to be picked up or ship it yourself.

SHEIN return policy FAQs & everything you need to know

Let’s begin with the most asked question, shall we?

#1 Are SHEIN returns free?

Good news: The first time you return items an order it’s on the house!

Bad news: Additional returns on the same order thereafter will cost you about $7.99

The SHEIN return policy states that once you initiate a return for something you ordered on their website, SHEIN will give you a free shipping label to print out and attach to your package. You need to use their shipping label to send your first return back for free. If you want to return something else from the same order, they’ll charge a $7.99 fee for each shipping label.

But there’s a way to get around that and pay less! When you submit your return request, you can also choose to use your own shipping method and pay for shipping yourself because sometimes you can get a cheaper shipping rate directly from a shipping service.

#2 What products are NOT part of the SHEIN return policy?

SHEIN won’t accept returns for any items that have been worn, damaged, or have had the tags removed, so don’t take the tags off your ordered items until you’re certain you want to keep them. Your returned items can’t have any stains, rips, or signs of wear either, so be careful when you try them on for the first time. Lastly, if your item has a hygiene sticker on it (like swimsuits), don’t remove that either, because SHEIN won’t accept your return without it.

Besides these rules, here’s a list of items that SHEIN doesn’t accept for returns, so remember to be absolutely sure of them before ordering!

  • Bodysuits
  • Lingerie
  • Underwear
  • Jewelry
  • Beauty products
  • Event & party supplies
  • DIY supplies
  • Pet supplies
  • Accessories (except scarves, bags, and mermaid baskets)
  • Cosmetics (if the hygiene seal is broken)
  • Items with non-returnable marks
  • Free gifts

#3 What’s the longest I can stretch before placing a return order?

45 DAYS!

However, it’s crucial to note that the 45-day countdown starts the day you place your order, and NOT the day your order arrives. SHEIN will refuse to accept your return after 45 days have passed, so you must make it a point to ship and postmark your return packages as soon as possible after receiving them.

#4 How long will I have to wait before receiving my refund?

Once SHEIN receives the returned items, it will take up to 7 to 10 days to refund your amount or make an exchange if you paid with PayPal or a credit card. If you used a SHEIN gift card or SHEIN Wallet to pay, the funds should be back within 24 hours. Note that the SHEIN return policy will only refund you for the cost of the garment itself. Shipping costs, shipping insurance, and other additional fees are not refundable.

#5 Do I need to submit a physical receipt to return my SHEIN order?

SHEIN is an online store–so you don’t need a physical receipt. Just log into your account, go to the “orders” section and request your return. No receipt is required. Although, SHEIN’s return policy requires that your returns include the item’s original packaging. So don’t get rid of anything, even if it doesn’t seem important.

#6 I placed a return order but realized I want to keep the item – can I?

Don’t worry – it happens to the best of us! Mostly, this is possible but it depends on how you go about it.

If you realized you loved that little black dress after all and want to keep it, all you have to do is contact SHEIN’s customer service and request a cancellation on the return! They may accept, but there are also chances that they refuse the request if the return has already been picked up, or someone is already out for its pick-up.

#7 Do Shein clothes run small?

Shein’s sizing can be tough to figure out sometimes. The size chart isn’t much help either because the measurements don’t take the stretchiness of the fabric into account. And because Shein uses a lot of synthetic materials, the chart is often inaccurate. In general, Shein’s clothes tend to run small. So if you’re between sizes, it’s best to size up. Or you could order one item in your actual size and one size up and one size down. Keep the item that fits you the best and return the other two.

#8 I love what I received but it’s a size too small. Can I exchange it?

Directly? Nope. Unfortunately, there happens to be no formal SHEIN exchange policy. However, you can place a return order on the item you’ve received and then place a new order on the same product with the size you want. It’s time-consuming and slightly tedious, but it is what it is. Also, we suggest placing a new order before your return is completely processed in case the size you want runs out of stock during the period you’re waiting for your return to be picked up. Your refund will eventually make its way back to you.

#9 I bought something from the “Sale” section. Can I still return it?

Usually, yes you can! However, you need to make sure that the item is not marked “non-returnable” when you’re viewing the product page. It will look something like this:

Check this before making your purchase

#10 I washed an item and I don’t like how it looks after. What do I do?

There is a good chance you may still be able to receive a refund if the product isn’t the same as it was before washing. For this, you’ll need to contact customer service and possibly share before-and-after wash images of the product to qualify for SHEIN refunds.

#11 Help! I misplaced/discarded my original order packaging. Can I make my SHEIN return without the original packaging?

While the SHEIN return policy requires that your returns include the item’s original packaging, you may still be able to return your order without it.

Shein garments come in a zip bag. No worries if it’s broken or you’ve thrown it out – you’ll still get your money back.

You can use the zip bag from another piece of clothing by taking off the reference label, or you can send your clothing without the bag. SHEIN also offers another option: put each article of clothing in a clear bag with the SKU reference written on the outside, so that Shein can process returned garments faster.

#12 My SHEIN order is damaged – how do I make sure I get my refund?

Making unboxing videos are always fun to watch on an influencer’s page. And while it’s become “trendy” to do so, there’s another important reason why you should make one for every online order, no matter the platform.

Making a video of you opening a sealed package is proof that the items you’ve received in that package have not been tampered with by you before placing a request for return, and that you’ve received the products damaged. If, for some reason, you’re unable to shoot a video – immediately take pictures after opening the parcel before you do anything else.

When requesting a refund, you get the option to upload product pictures for proof that the things you’ve received are not in the best condition. Upload them there, and keep the video you’ve shot as a backup in case your request doesn’t go through!

#13 I placed my return request but I can’t see any updates. What’s next?

If you’re facing any trouble processing your return, tracking your package, or receiving your refund, contact SHEIN Customer Service within 180 days of your purchase – that means the date you placed your order. If you wait longer than that, SHEIN probably won’t be able to find your order information and your money will be stuck.
