Nordstrom Return Policy 2023: How to Return Items Effortlessly

We’ve all made those purchases.

You buy an item, and try it on to only find that it doesn’t look as great as it did at the store or on that model you saw online.

Whatever the case, the only way to ‘fix’ your recent purchase situation is to either return it or exchange it. Well, If you bought your stuff from Nordstrom, you’re in luck.

What is Nordstrom’s return policy? 

Nordstrom’s return policy is case-by-case, and they do what they can to make their customers happy. In order to best satisfy their customers, their philosophy is to treat them fairly and reasonably. Which is pretty awesome in our opinion.

How long do I have to make a return at Nordstrom?

Nordstrom has a flexible return policy and they usually initiate returns on a case-by-case basis

Nordstrom has a 40-day time limit to return an item purchased online. If you bought the item in-store, the limit is 30 days. However, If you take a returnable item to Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack in the U.S., you can return it free of charge. Bring your receipt and the payment form you used.

To return your item by mail, request a prepaid shipping label. Print the label off from your email or present your return code at the post office and they’ll print the label for you. It takes up to two weeks to process a mailed return, and the refund may take another week.

Nordstrom accepts mailed-in returns received after 55 days only at their discretion. Plus, as a late return, you’ll only get half of the original sale price back after a $9.95 return shipping charge per prepaid shipping label used. And as of March 15, 2023, your partial refund from the late return is credited with an electronic gift card rather than how you paid.

What if the item is worn?

While Nordstrom will accept a previously worn, tagless item, they ask that you care for it and respect their liberal return policy.

Are there any restocking fees for returns at Nordstrom?

Many retail stores either charge a 15%-20% restocking fee or a flat fee to return an item. Return policies are often abused, and companies have found it necessary to offset the cost of restocking an item. 

However, Nordstrom’s return policy has no restocking fee. They have chosen to put their return policy on the same level as their customer service – at the top of the heap.

What items are non-returnable at Nordstrom?

There are a few exceptions, of course. Special occasion dresses and designer items must still have the tag on them to be returned. This is the area where Nordstrom’s liberal return policy has been taken advantage of in the past. However, Nordstrom still does their best to accommodate as long as the tag is on it and the item is unworn.

How can I return a gift I received from Nordstrom?

Because Nordstrom has an internal auditing system, they are usually able to find your purchase even without a receipt. Having that receipt makes finding your purchase much faster and easier for your customer service representative.

However, if you don’t have a receipt, just give them your ID. They should be able to find your purchase on the computer, assuming you paid by credit card.

If you paid by cash, they will not give you a cash return without your receipt. They are quite happy to give you a Nordstrom Gift Card instead. Of course, if you paid with PayPal, they simply refund it to your PayPal account.

Can I return an item I purchased online to a Nordstrom store?

Absolutely. Although they don’t send out return labels with orders, it’s easy to print your own prepaid one or even get a QR code to take to a Post Office location. Also super easy is that Nordstrom’s return policy welcomes returns online and in-store. S

o if you don’t feel like sending it in, take it to the store for an immediate and easy solution.

If you are returning fine jewelry, remember to have the packing slip and credit card with you.

How do I initiate a return for an item I purchased at Nordstrom?

If you bought the item in-store, simply take it to any Nordstrom location, and a customer service representative will be able to assist you.

If you bought your item online, you can either return it online or bring it into the store. Having your receipt will make the return that much easier.

You can return your Nordstrom and items at Nordstrom Rack. Super easy.

Nordstrom Rack offers Nordstrom’s clearance items and brands, especially for the Rack. They not only offer savings and deep discounts, but they also accept returns from the Nordstrom department store.

Just a couple of tiny details – designer items and fine jewelry bought at Nordstrom or online cannot be returned at the Rack, but they can still be returned. Boutique returns must be taken back to the location they were purchased from.

Can I make an international return outside the U.S. and Canada?

It’s a different return process.

Nordstrom’s international orders are made through Borderfree, but they don’t qualify for free returns or exchanges. If you want it to include international charges like tariffs, taxes, and duties, you’ll need to contact Nordstrom’s customer service and have them send you a Return Merchandise Authorization (RFA) through Borderfree.

Then simply mail that form and your return item to Borderfree. You can also send your return directly to Nordstrom, but it won’t have the tariffs, taxes, or duties included in theinternational return.

Can I exchange an item at Nordstrom instead of returning it?

If you want to exchange an item, Nordstrom is happy to help you, online or in-store. You can order a replacement item for your return in the U.S. by calling 1.888.282.6060, or in Canada, call 1.877.794.5304.

If you go in-store, simply find a replacement item and return your previous purchase. Nordstrom wants to make your experience hassle-free.
